Wheel of Time - Book 5.
Took me a week to get through 200 pages of Gormeghast. Decided to luss it when I got my hands on Book 5 and finished 200 pages of that in 2 days. Freakin awesome!
I loaned my copy of Fires of Heaven to my friend eight months ago and he has only read 49 pages so far. I have to say the surprises Robert Jordan pulls out (in Fires of Heaven) surrounding Rand is AMAZING. I think Mat owns Fires of Heaven because ….(Well I don’t want to spoil it for you) Finished now, so you may spoil away. I'm now somewhere in the middle of Book 6 and loving it. I hope to start with Blood of the Fold by Terry Goodkind later today, so hopefully I’ll be finished before 23h00 tonight
WTQ Hmm my parents also taught us to read at quite a young age but geezes! 215mins for 700 pages that's what 3 pages a minute?! Failed maths and I'm not about to start up the calculater -_- I must say that it really feels like Terry Goodkind has borrowed some of the somewhat “cooler” aspects from another fantasy author's work (who sadly passed away in 2007) What author?

Monte Cassino by Mathew Parker - a very grim account of what turned out to be one of the bloodiest battles of WW2.
Also the Amtrak Wars series by Patrick Tilley - am almost finished the last volume (6).

Finished now, so you may spoil away. I was stunned when Rand addressed Lanfear by her real name and started remembering things from Age of Legends. It felt like Tyler Durden (Fight Club) moment. And book six is one of my all time favorite books and has one of the greatest endings EVER! Asha’man has to be the greatest creation EVER !

I’ve finished reading The Temple of Wind by Terry Goodkind and I must say it felt like I was reading a lemon, the whole sexual aspect to this book was kind of creepy. I think Nathan stole the show with his chapters. I’m sad to see that Richard married Kahlan.

I’ve just finished reading Soul of Fire by Terry Goodkind One of the problems I have with Soul of Fire is the fact it starts of with Kahlan nagging and berating Richard for not being attentive to her need and feelings; Richard not realizing that he has three wives and Fitch or Fetch has so much screen time in the book yet he dies so easily. Other than that, the book is not too bad because in Stone of Tears; Blood of the Fold and Temple of the Winds Terry Goodkind used blood, gore violence, sex and nudity to weave the tapestry yet it lacked the genius of the first book (Wizard’s First Rule). Thankfully, in Soul of Fire, we see a glimmer of it, I had goose bumps on my skin when Richard drew the Grace and outwitted Joseph Ander. This really makes me look forward to the next book in the Sword of Truth series, Faith of Fallen.

Warning: Rant follows. There are no spoilers, just opinions which should be taken with a grain of salt and all that. Wow. Well, for a long time I thought STONE OF TEARS was the best book I had ever read. And it remains my favourite book in the series, so I guess I still think it's pretty good. That said, for me the series went somewhat downhill from there. (Note: I never read Wizard's First Rule. I couldn't find a copy, and by the time I did, I pretty much knew exactly what happened in it). I started reading the series in high school, and read each new book as it came out. Finished the last book in the series last year. And I guess I enjoyed it. But like... by the end it seemed so generic. For half the books he just seems to retell everything that happened in the previous books, and then the formula is: introduce new threat, things are now bad, things get worse, oh no: the apocalypse is upon us, there is no solution! -> Richard magically and miraculously saves the day. And that happened over and over, in more or less every book. Grrrr!!!!! And by the end it seemed Goodkind was forcing his ideologies on the reader, and not anything new, just the same FREEDOM, YOU MUST BE WILLING TO FIGHT AND EMBRACE TRUTH OR YOU WILL SUFFER, over and over, beating the same dead horse. So... But, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying don't read the series. Terry Goodkind was my favourite author for a good few years, and I enjoyed reading his work. And Cara! I adored Cara. <3 I guess when you like something a lot and it starts off well you just end up having high expectations for it, and I felt that in the end - it could have been better. Anyway. Rant concluded.

I’ve just finished reading Faith of the Fallen by Terry Goodkind Faith of the Fallen by Terry Goodkind page 514
Richard stood in the center of the room, watching her; a puzzled frown creased his brow between his eyes. Nicci closed the distance to him. She was aware of the exposed flesh of her bosom rising and falling above the top of her black dress. Gadi had just been staring at her bosom. She wanted Richard to stare at her like that. Richard watched only her eyes. Her fingers tightened around his muscled arms. “Make love to me,” she whispered. His brow drew down. “What?” “Richard, I want you to make love to me. Now.” He appraised her eyes for an eternity. Her heart thundered in her ears. Every fiber of her being screamed out for him to take her. She teetered on the edge, waiting, her life suspended in the exquisite anguish of expectation. His voice came, not all harsh. If anything, it was tender, but it was also resolute. “No.” Nicci felt as if a thousand needles of ice were dancing up her arms. His refusal stunned her. No man had ever refused her. It hurt to her core – worse than anything Jagang or any other man had ever done. She had thought… Damn. I really couldn’t help laughing when I read this, Richard turning down the beautiful and stunning Nicci. I’ll say this, Faith of the Fallen is proof that Goodkind can write his own work and not just copy and paste from others. It almost feels like Faith of the Fallen is the direct sequel to Wizard’s First Rule and Faith of the Fallen is on many levels a much better book the very first one. After reading Soul of Fire I was very eager for the next book, I must say that somehow Goodkind has surpassed any and all expectations. The only downside to the book is; the fact that Kahlan and Richard are together in the begin of the book, then few chapters on they’re separated (placed on opposite ends of the earth) on to be reunited in the final chapter. I don’t know if anyone ever noticed that when you’re reading a book you don’t care or notice the gender of the author, because he or she is able to created characters so good or believable you’d never be able to tell the gender of the author. For the past six books, it never escaped my mind that Goodkind is male because with Kahlan he has created a character that comes across as one that was designed by a man. Terry Goodkind is not a great world builder, I mean one place more or less looks and feels the same as the next location. One continent in particular has a moldy, marshland; 15th century Soviet Block (behind the Iron Curtain) like atmosphere. Despite any negative comments I may have made, I’m really looking forward to next book in the Sword of Truth series, Pillars of Creation

I recently bought Pillars of Creation and Naked Empire by Terry Goodkind.
In book seven, Mr. Goodkind unveiled one the “greatest” characters in the series, a goat. The goat has the extra ordinary ability to identify those who have gone over to the Darkside.
In Naked Empire we meet Rachael once more, which is always a pleasure. Oh and Richard discovers the importance of varied diet
I can’t believe I spent R270 on these two book, I’m now more convinced than ever that ghostwriter must be responsible for the better books of the series. I’m a little worried about the remaining three books, with titles such as “Phantom” and” Confessor” I’d make a guess and say Kahlan takes center stage in the remaining books. I’m wondering when Legend of The Seeker (the TV series) is coming to South Africa.

I finished reading Hook by Terry Brooks. I loved the movie as a kid; my dad took us to the drive in to see it. The movie was shown on the movie magic channel recently and it had aged somewhat over the years, I can’t believe that Robin Williams was cast as Peter Pan, I really enjoyed Fox’s Peter Pan animated series in early 90’s on KTV. This is just my opinion but I’ve always felt that The Sword of Shannara was much better than The Lord of the Rings, plus I think the book (The Sword of Shannara) would make two great movies ( I think the book is too long for just one movie.)
